Don’t get me wrong, I understand the notion and see the beauty in all the “Build bridges, not walls” kind of metaphors. But when it comes to strategy and futures, I’m afraid a bridge isn’t the answer.

You see, I’ve got my issues with some of the dominant pictures we use when talking about strategy, organizations, futures—or even the world, for that matter. One of them is the narrative of building bridges as always a positive thing.

Don’t get me wrong, I understand the notion and see the beauty in all the “Build bridges, not walls” kind of metaphors. But when it comes to strategy and futures, I’m afraid a bridge isn’t the answer.
